ok OTHER than Time what is your favorite 80s ELO album and why
oh ! well hm iâm not sure if Xanadu counts since while the music was done by ELO, i donât know if i consider it like an ELO album the same way as i would consider their mainline albums as ELO Albums, right, but barring that, i would say Xanadu! but i also really love Secret Messages a LOT. i used to have the tracklist memorized to the point where if i heard one song come on randomly, especially out of the first five or six tracks, i would practically hear the next track as it fades out đ something that also happens with Time and even some non-ELO albums that i just obsessively listen to!
#to be honest though i think the 70s albums have more of my favorites!#eldorado is my second favorite to time#and discovery after that#but out of the blue and all across the universe are such classics i love all those songs#AND i really love no answer for how weird some of those songs are LOL#mr. radio is like a quiet obsession for me#GOD and ive been listening to fire on high from face the music a lot#face the music is ANOTHER one i used to obsessively listen to over and over#sadly though i cant listen to waterfall much anymore :( i made myself too sad about it in high school#one dayâŠ.. iâll return to you waterfall#elo#anonymous#redwoods words#thank you so much for asking!! đ„°

charlotte what are your favorite concept albums :] i'm trying to listen to music more and i like concepts
hope by klaatu is my ultimate favorite concept album!! its prog rock from 1977 about space and an alien war and a lighthouse keeper and stuff :) so many amazing songs im actually getting chills all over my body just thinking about So Said The Lighthouse Keeper. VERY IMPORTANT there exists a song called Epilogue its 40 seconds long its not on the album but you HAVE to listen to it between lighthouse keeper and the title track im begging you its so pretty and i think sets up the title track perfectly. its such a shame they didnt put it on the album for whatever reason.
other faves are eldorado (another album i could write a Paragraph about) and time by elo, ziggy stardust and diamond dogs by david bowie, songs for the deaf by qotsa, deltron 3030, plastic beach by gorillaz, were only in it for the money by frank zappa, wywh by pink floyd, days of future passed by the moody blues, thick as a brick by jethro tull, circus by argent, paradise theatre by styx, preservation act 2 by the kinks, and master of brutality by church of misery :)

hi this is a weird ask maybe. i know little to nothing about cars but enjoy looking at them and ive recently decided one of my favorite cars is a 1971 buik riviera for the sole reason that there's one on an album cover of a band i like. any opinions you have on it or anything interesting you can share about it?
ooooh what album? iâm a BIG fan of 70s american luxury cars so iâm very partial to the riviera, love that beautiful boat tail. i think theyâre gorgeous and you can build them into a BEAST, those 70s GMs were great to work on and pretty damn versitile. that second gen riviera was built on the same platform as the cadillac eldorado and oldsmobile tornado at the time, those E-bodies got HUGE

Willem Greve wins the Rolex Grand Prix inside The Flemish Masters.
The Rolex Grand Prix, the showâs height group, was the culmination of the Dutch Masters, the second Rolex Grand Slam of the calendar month. The Major, the last of the four shows in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping to honor the initiativeâs ten-year anniversary, did so with a flattering festival on Saturday night looking back over the shows from the previous decade.
Fans were eager to see if Richard Vogel, the latest Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping life competitor, could win back-to-back Majors in his quest for the sportâs best prize, a task that would require a dramatic field of riders, including the latest European, World, and Olympic champions, who were all hoping to win this prestigious Rolex Grand Prix.
Martin Fuchs, the following to go, was the first to learn Louis Konickxâs extremely built program, and he was the winner of the CPKC â Internationalâ Grand Prix, presented by Rolex at the CSIO Spruce Meadowsâ Masters â Tournament. The most of any animal in the group, Leone Jei, is his support, who has jumped eight clears in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Majors.
World No. 2 is the next addition to the main area. The flying Frenchman Julien Epaillard was another to pass the 14 mix program, keeping his hopes of becoming the first European horse to win a Major dead. 1 Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward ensured there would be a jump-off with a perfectly judged distinct round. Seven riders from seven different countries were in contention for the jump-off, including German rider Marcus Ehning and theâ Dutch Horse of the Yearâ Harrie Smolders, who lit the residence crowd on fire. Only two more combinations of the remaining riders made it to the second circular, with some of the competitionâs favorites like Steve Guerdat and Richard Vogel unwilling to join the special list of riders.
Fuchs set the pace with a distinct in 35.11 hours, but von Eckermann and King Edward immediately took the lead when they crossed the line in 33.74 seconds, making it clear that they were the leading pair in the world. Glows produced a very soft round, but the grief came when he was 0.92 seconds slower. The crowd roared back. Swedenâs victory appeared to be on the line, but French rider Willem Greve and his sea stallion, Highway TN N. O. P., with their perfectly vetted round, won in the final round. only 0.04 hours ahead of the other. Greve thus won his second Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Major as well as a first for the Netherlands, making him the life candidate ahead of the CHIO Aachen in July.
The French horse stated:â I have to squeeze myself â it is amazing. Thoughts may adequately express how I feel. For his bravery and culture, I am so appreciative of my horse. The background here is amazing, and it honors me to be included in the list of winners. It means a lot to me to get in front of my home crowd. To win at The French Masters is a dream come true because Iâve been a part of it since I was a young child.

Ragged Glory Neil Young & Crazy Horse (Reprise) (released in 1990)
As I indicated in my last post, Neil Young will be reissuing four of his albums in the coming weeks and I am posting the original albums which I picked up, most generally on release day as I was that kind of Neil Young fan at the time. Ragged Glory is one of my beloved Neil Young albums. When I wrote my Top 125 Albums of the '90s it came in at #4 (my second version saw it drop to #50, a patently ridiculous drop in fortune, today it would be far higher back up the ladder; it essentially swapped places on my list with Sleeps With Angels which I've long considered to be the last classic Neil Young album).
Anyhow, here is a look at the vinyl pressing of this album from 33 years ago. You see the album cover and the back of the album. Below are both sides of the inner sleeve. In all these years it is surprising how clean I kept that black inner sleeve from getting messy...until today. And yes, that's my favorite iPhone iPose happening in the reflective color.
The labels are below. Reprise is still using that post-modern steamship look. Were there ever a Neil Young album in need of the original Reprise label, this album is it!
When this album gets reissued in about three weeks, it will suddenly be a triple album! The album proper will now consume two albums and Neil is adding four songs to the tracklist (one of the primary reasons for my actually spending a small fortune to secure a copy of this album on vinyl via this box; yes I know he often releases stand alone copies of these boxed albums, but he also is contrary and how knows if a stand alone Ragged Glory will include the additional four songs). Two of those songs came out previously. The first is Don't Spook The Horse which came out on a CD single of Mansion On The Hill. You can see that CD single below.
I remember discovering this at Camelot Records in the mall and being astonished it even existed let alone contained a B-Side of a song not found on a Neil Young album. Yes see the album cover, the digipak opened up to reveal the gatefold and then the back of the album. Below is the CD itself.
I thought perhaps this track was making it's debut on vinyl, but there was a seven inch version of Mansion On The Hill b/w Don't Spook The Horse released in Europe, of course. Europe never gave up on vinyl like the US did.
The other track that was previously released that will now be added to Ragged Glory is Interstate. David Briggs, Young's long time producer wanted this track on Ragged Glory but Young opted not to include it. It was only after Briggs' death of cancer in 1995 that Young included it on an album (Broken Arrow released in 1996) in memory of Briggs. It was on vinyl copies only of Broken Arrow as well as a track on the Big Time single CD in Europe. Below you will see the label for the track from Broken Arrow.
The other two tracks that will be added to Ragged Glory are Box Car and Born To Run. Box Car shows up on 2007's Chrome Dreams II but the version on Ragged Glory will be a different version. As for Born To Run, it has never been released on a Neil Young album thus far although I have a studio version from the six CD box set bootleg Road of Plenty: The Unreleased Songs (1966-2010) & Live Rarities (1969-1984) as well as live versions on the 15 CD box set bootleg Decades. Turns out Born To Run isn't on the 15 CD box Decades as it is all live recordings. But there is a live version of Box Car from 1989 performed by Neil Young and The Restless (the band on the incendiary Eldorado EP which one assumed would have been included in this box but you know how Neil is).

Tag people you want to know better
Thanks for the tag @visualecho94 :)
Three ships: Clexa, Cophine and Hedi/Fritzi (a fairly new obsession)
Last long: The Garden - Flower Face
Last movie: Cloud Atlas (I won't say it's my all time favorite movie because there's still Pride And Prejudice, but it's a very close second)
Currently watching: Nothing actually, but the last thing I watched was that german show 'Eldorado KaDeWe'. I wish y'all could watch it tbh, because despite that horrible title it's really really good!! (It's also where the Hedi/Fritzi ship is from and I'm in desperate need of people to rant about it with lol)
Currently consuming: The finale of Gideon The Ninth and too much sad music
Currently craving: Honestly, physical touch. I wanna hug someone
Tagging: @lexa-griffins @ruined-ruination @ovrgrwn @saturnlexa @orageuxx @midnightconfessions
But no pressure, as always :)

â„ (if you only do this for muns you know, that's fine! No hard feelings! But if you have time, this is for @forloveofthestory and @spxcemuses. I think they could use the love<3)
NO NO ITS FINE MY DUDE!! Iâm 100% here to give these folks love too! Iâm going to start with @forloveofthestory because holy shit the second I took a peak at their muses I started fucking rolling with laughter. The way they give the short explanation absolutely kills me. âa very pretty bard.â and âa grumpy old man with a laser swordâ absolutely sent me, and barely even making it through the first page of their blog I am genuinely beyond impressed by Shivâs writing. Like holy fuck, I canât express how quickly I will be pounding that follow button once Iâm done writing this up. And to top it off Shiv seems so lovely ooc too? Like the rules are respectful and to the point, and Iâm just alksdfhasdf very excited.Â
Now for @spxcemuses !!!!! A FELLOW MULTI HEY FAM! I hope Space knows that Iâm absolutely fucking gaga over the fact that they write Tzekel-Kan ... Road to Eldorado has always been my favorite fucking show ever and to this day I still watch it for the lols. Either way I really enjoy this blog as well, and their writing seems to be really diverse and thatâs pretty damn nifty! I mean, Space was A-fucking-plus in my book from the first second I realized they were a multi so LOL. keep on being awesome my dude <3

Top 5 Boardwalk episodes
1. Home
IT INTRODUCES MEYER AND RICHARD! OF COURSE ITâS MY FAVORITE. But when I watched BWE for the first time, this was the episode where absolutely all the threads laid out in the first six episodes came together and the picture they wove was *shudders*. Nucky burning down his fatherâs house while Teddy watched; Meyer trying to play Chalky; Lucy sitting alone in the movie theater; Richard and Jimmyâs first meeting/first kill...the whole thing is just perfect.Â
2. Gimcrack and Bunkum
Again, this episode felt like the point where season two came together. Boardwalk Empire has so much magical realism infused throughout the run, but in this episode itâs so *apparent*. I actually believe that Richardâs entire encounter with the dog/old men in the woods is a hallucination. Heâs in the Pine Barrons for god sakes! Plus, they were so careful about hiding out-of-season shooting, but the Richard scenes positively luxuriate in the bare trees and fallen leaves. For a scene that takes place on *Memorial Day*.Â
The whole episode is aces, though. Jimmy doing such a great job giving the speech, while Angela watches proudly, utterly unaware of the undercurrents with Nucky, who is glowering from the front at Jimmyâs success? The fight between Nucky and Eli? The off the charts creepiness of the Gillian/Jimmy scene in the bathroom? And I love Nuckyâs plotting (itâs so smart, and I donât always think that about his plots, although this one rebounds back on him), and I love when real-life people like Attorney General Daugherty and his, ahem, friend Jess Smith show up. But the Jimmy/Richard scenes are my favorite in the series, including the scalping of the odious Jackson Parkhurst. Never before have I cheered the death of a senior citizen.
3. Margate Sands
Season Three is very loud, and Margate Sounds starts with a beautiful montage of men dying dancing from machine-gun bullets, but the finale feels so earned. Everyone is there because of the decisions they made, both good and bad. The scenes with Eli and Nucky, especially about the car, are warm and make them feel like siblings in a way I donât think the show always managed (Eli often felt like another neglected sorta-son, like Jimmy, which sometimes felt purposefully done and othertimes not so much). Getting Al Capone and Chalky together was *brilliant*. All the wheeling and dealing with Rothstein and Andrew Carnegie? Perfection.
And obviously, all the Tommy stuff breaks my heart, and I love the detail that he wonât go to Gillian while sheâs offering sandwiches and Oreos, but runs to Richard, whom he just witnessed blowing someoneâs head off. I chewed my nails off watching the rampage the first time.
Every single thing about Charlie and Meyer is outstanding in this episode. Particularly, Charlie trying to make up with Meyer in the hallway, and then the whole scene with AR/Masseria. Also, Masseria is straight-up terrifying in every scene but especially that one. Meyer talking Charlie down because if not, they are both dead? You can feel the danger they were in.Â
In the end, though, Gillian broke my heart the most remembering the Commodore-and Nucky-did to her. Richard leaving Tommy with Julia (donât get me started on Paulâs insta-redemption, the only dumb as hell moment in the whole episode) is a close second.
4. Eldorado
Mabelâs story is absolutely horrific on every level, but I think the biggest success of the flashbacks was fleshing her out. Because she was great! Bold, bright, and conniving. It made her loss so much more real. And she was particularly great in this episode, where you see thatâs her own coping techniques that probably led to her undoing.
But this episode mirrors Margate Sands in such interesting ways. Nucky walking through the Commodoreâs house for the first time mirrors his walk through it at the end of MS looking at the aftermath of Richardâs carnage. And watching Gillianâs story, which she relives in flashback in MS...JFC.Â
Season five is Charlieâs season, and he and Meyer bring the goodness. I cheered when they finally got Narcisse. I canât believe we havenât got a miniseries or something, because BWE ended just as their stories heated up (Meyer taking out Nazis? Hello?).
5. Family Limitation
This episode is good for many reasons. Chicago Jimmy is the best Jimmy. Torrio was a much better mentor, who wasnât afraid to smack Jimmy down but also celebrated Jimmyâs strengths, than Nucky. Being away from Gillian was good for Jimmy. I loved that the rich lady Margaret goes to for advice isnât judgemental-sheâs very pro-Temperance, so-but utterly practical. She gives Margaret advice about birth control. I love it.
But I love this episode for Charlie. Although his relationship with Gillian has some disturbing subtext, due to the fact heâs just a year older than Jimmy, itâs delightful all the same. And the scene where AR calls and tells Charlie, as Gillian rolls her stockings on in the bed behind him, that Gillian is Jimmyâs mother, not his wife?
I LAUGH EVERY TIME.Â
Honorable mentions to basically every season two episode, a lot of season three, and the whole back end of season one.
Also-I was writing yesterday so my head is still there and as I wrote this I had to take out a whole section because Nucky isnât actually Richardâs father-in-law. Whoops.
Thanks!

What's your favourite movie?
Easily The Road to Eldorado. Iâve seen that movie so many times that when Iâm bored I can just watch it in my head.
Funny story, one of my animation teachers freshman year Scott Wright worked on the film and the first day of class I admitted to knowing the entire script and scene chorography for the film and to which I was publicly shamed. Because as he put it, âI was paid to know that whatâs your excuseâ⊠and then I said the same thing about Spirit because I never learn.
Itâs my favorite film I love everything from the writing to the colors, to the camera angles. Itâs my perfect film.
But the thing I took the most from that class besides push the pose and draw a body in five seconds was never talk to people who worked on your favorite movie about your favorite movie.Â
After that is Whatâs Up Doc a screwball comedy that is just so fun and I love it

Tagged by @rebellingstagnationblog Thank you! I love these things! <3Â
1. Coke or Pepsi: VANILLA COKE is a vice for me. (Itâs gonna hurt, but DRINK IT ANYWAY.) Extreme acid reflux...no shits to give when that drink is staring at me...
2. Disney or DreamWorks: DISNEY (But I LOVE The Road to Eldorado with the flame of a million suns.)
3. Coffee or tea: I like both, but tea is nicer to me. (Again, with the acid reflux. And AGAIN, sometimes I just have no shits to give.)Â
4. Books or movies: BOOKS. They are my reason to LIVE.Â
5. Windows or Mac: Windows, but only because Iâm too poor. (I actually own a $200 Chromebook thatâs seen more than it ever should. Heâs crying out for mercy, but I just keep pounding on these keys... And dropping him. And spilling beverages into his keyboard. Yeah...the dudeâs READY TO RETIRE.)Â
6. DC or Marvel: LOOOOKIIIII (Please come baaaaack!)
7. Xbox or Playstation: We gonna play the game of PLAYSTATION ALL DAY.Â
8. Dragon Age or Mass Effect: Donât mean a thing to me. But dragons are cool, so Iâd pick that???Â
9. Night owl or early riser: I ENJOY THE NIGHT
10. Cards or chess: Cards (I WISH I was a good enough strategist for chess, but sadly, NO.)Â
11. Chocolate or vanilla: Give me the chocolate, and I MAY let you live.Â
12. Vans or converse: Converse
13. Lavellan, Trevelyan, Cadash, or Adaar: Donât play this game.
14. Fluff or angst: I used to love fluff, but recently Iâm just in such a mood with ANGST. I donât know why, because Iâm a happy person, but I love to see healing in people, but youâve got to get through the pain first.Â
15. Beach or forest: FORESTS. I live in Idaho, and I will never get sick of my beautiful trees.Â
16. Dogs or cats: Doggies! (Especially wiener dogs.) Cats are kind of evil.Â
17. Clear skies or rain: I love both. It depends on my mood. Extrovert mode, SUN. Introvert want-to-read-all-day-and-avoid-people-mode...RAIN.Â
18. Cooking or eating out: I love cooking, yet eating out with friends is fun too.Â
19. Spicy or mild food: Mild, but only because of my AR. I try spicy food sometimes, because Iâm a masochist, and I wanna see how much I can take before I wanna die???
20. Halloween/Samhain or solstice/yule/Christmas: YULE. A medieval yule holiday would be the most amazing. I make the most of every Christmas. Only fandom-based toys and plushies, sleeping out in the living room with my peeps, and the FOOD.Â
21. Would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot: I am hot-blooded and writhe around in misery when it gets too hot, so yeeeah. A little too cold would be kind of great.Â
22. If you could have a superpower, what would it be: I would want to fly, but I would need to be invisible too, like Karou from âDaughter of Smoke and Bones.âÂ
23. Animation or live action: ANIMATION (Iâve loved it with a passion since I was small and always will.Â
24. Paragon or renegade: Renegade. Iâm not perfect. Nobody is.Â
25. Bath or shower: I mostly take showers, but a good bath is one of the only things (besides the occasional drink) that will relax me. CAUTION: Red bath bombs are SCARY.Â
26. Team Cap or Team Iron Man: TEAM TONY (Iâd eat him up in a HOT SECOND.)Â
27. Fantasy or sci-fi: FANTASY (Although, when itâs a combination, like Anne McCaffreyâs GENETICALLY ENGINEERED DRAGONS... Iâm just snappinâ that shit up.)
28. Do you have 3 or 4 favorite quotes if so what are they?
âItâs a sin to pervert faith with religion.â -Identical, by Ellen Hopkins

Tagged by: the wonderful @blanchctt - thank you â„
Tagging: @piascleavage, @ultraassbuttâ, @avagardners, @cinemalesbianâ, @emmywinnerjonhammâ, @misskatekaneâ, @lorelaigillmoreâ - I do think you all like to read, but if you donât want to take it, no problem!
1. Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
I donât think my love for reading has developed very much. Since the day I learned to properly read some weeks before Christmas in 2004, Iâve always loved it. Itâs as simple as that.
2. Where do you usually read?
Itâs usually the couch on my bedroom or in our livingroom, but also my bed.
3. Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once?
One at a time!
4. What is/are your favourite book(s)?
Hmm. I have many. I think those I would call favorites are The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, 1984 by George Orwell, the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (/J. K. Rowling) aaaand... well, thatâs probably it. I might have forgotten a book or two.
5. Do you have a least favourite book?
There was this one book I had to read in school that I absolutely hated, but I donât remember the name of it or the author of it.
6. What is your favourite genre?
Crime, drama, historical fiction - thatâs usually what I prefer, but I really donât mind any genre I think.
7. Is there a genre you wonât read?
No, I donât think so. As long as the books looks good, Iâm willing to give it a chance, no matter what genre it is.
8. What is the longest book you ever read?
Iâm not sure which is longest, but one of the first three books in the ASOIAF series by George R. R. Martin. Iâm not completely sure, but I think so.
9. What book are you currently reading?
Right now Iâm reading The Childrenâs Act by Ian McEwan.
10. What was the last book you finished?
Agatha Christieâs The Murder at the Vicarage.
11. What was the last book you bought?
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.
12. Do you have a favourite book quote?
I have many favorites, but I love this one from HP and the Deathly Hallows:
"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"
13. Do you prefer library books or buying books?
I prefer buying books. I actually borrowed books at the library for the first time in yeeears a few days ago and I donât have any problem with it, but when you buy books you can have them forever, and thereâs no deadline whatsoever.
14. Where do you buy your books?
Mostly online or in a store called Eldorado here in Norway. However, if Iâm in another country that got Waterstones, you can be sure I will drag with me as many books as possible home.
15. How many books do you buy a month?
It depends. I got this excuse that no book goes out on date so if I donât read it right there and then, thatâs no problem. But it depends. Sometimes I donât buy a book, other times I buy one or two, and then there are times where I can buy 5-10 books. For example, I bought several in January because of the sales.
16. How many books do you own?
Iâm not sure. I think I have about 250 in my room, but I probably have another 200 laying around other places in the house.
17. How do you feel about second hand books?
Love them! I wish I had more of them, especially older editions and stuff.
18. Do you prefer E-books or physical books?
Physical books, without a doubt! I have tried to read a few e-books, but I have to quit after a few pages because I canât handle it. It might take some time getting used to, I donât know, but I will probably always prefer physical books.
19. Do you prefer paperback or hardback?
Hardback. I like paperback as well, and they are much better when I travel or go somewhere, but if I had to choose, I would choose hardback.
20. Do you prefer to read trilogies/series or standalones?
That depends. Some books are best as standalones, but others are good as a series. It completely depends on the book and the plot and characters.
21. What is the weirdest thing youâve used as a bookmark?
I once used a unused pad as a bookmark, but thatâs probably the weirdest thing.
22. What is more important to you: characters or plot?
Characters. A bad plot can be turned good with good characters, but a good plot can never be good with bad characters - at least thatâs how I feel it.
23. Do you ever judge a book by its cover?
I rarely every buy or read a book I havenât heard about before, or know the author to, but yeah, Iâve probably done that.
24. Whatâs the most beautiful book you own?
I think I will have to go with this book I have with all of Jane Austenâs novels. Itâs big, pink, and very beautiful.
25. What is your favorite book to movie/tv adaptation?
The Price of Salt (which turned into Carol), and I also love the 2005 adaption of Pride and Prejudice.
26. What is the best beverage to drink while reading a book?
Cocoa!
27. Are you looking forward to any book release? If so, which one?
Iâm not very updated on upcoming books, but Iâm looking forward to the next book in the Cormoran Strike series, as well as some other sequels from different series.Â
28. Recommend me a book :3
Basically every book I mentioned in my answers, but I would also recommend you Big Little Lies by Lianne Moriarty or/and My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

Italian Design: Moto Guzzi
It was not until I moved to Italy that my love for Moto Guzzi started to grow. I was always a BMW fan, mainly because I never had much contact with Guzzi motorcycles in Brazil when I was growing up, but BMW Motorcycles were always around and were aspirational. If you follow this blog you may have seen the 4 thousand kilometers my friends and I traveled in four BMW R1200GS during only 7 days around Europe - if you missed that post you should start here.
When I moved to Italy I decided to emerge myself in the local culture and brands, especially since I am an Italian citizen. That is when I started the blog and this special column called "Italian Design" where I show some of the most iconic Italian brands and designs.
Joining my passion for motorcycles with me living in Italy, it was certain that eventually, I would try to get closer to an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. The first thing I noticed is that Italians are particularly proud of the brand Moto Guzzi and even people that don't actually have one confess having a special admiration for its accomplishments.
It all started in the historic Italian marque founded at Mandello del Lario on the banks of Lake Como in 1921. Since then, the company has produced over 50 different models, many, like the famous Le Mans, powered by the transverse V-twin, which has become a Guzzi trademark over the years.
My favorite thing about the Moto Guzzi is probably the fact it's the most customized bike ever and the only European Motorcycle brand to fight with fair chance against Harley Davidson in the US market.
"For me, it's remarkable how customizable their bikes are"
ICONIC MODELS
The most iconic model is the 1955-57 âOttoâ V8 GP racer. The sadly short-lived Moto Guzzi V8 GP racer, also known as the âOttoâ, was arguably one of the boldest and most advanced motorcycles of all time. In the early 1950s, Guzzi was already renown for its engineering prowess and racing success, being the first company to have it's own wind tunnel.ĂŹ. The new V8, conceived in 1954 to challenge racing rivals like Gileraâs 500/4, took things to a whole new level being liquid-cooled with DOHC, producing an unprecedented 78bhp and capable of an unheard of 172mph 20 years before the speed was achieved again in GPs. Unfortunately, it was also unreliable and considered dangerous to ride and when Moto Guzzi withdrew from racing entirely in 1957 it was consigned to history. Two examples remain at Guzziâs own museum.
My second favorite model is the 1971-74 V7 Sport. Despite its reputation for V-twins today, Guzziâs first transverse "V" didnât arrive until 1967 with the 703cc V7 which proved such a success it quickly led to other variants including the 1968 757cc V7 Special and one of the most iconic Guzzis of all, the 1971 748cc V7 Sport. Designed by Guzzi engineer Lino Tonti as a pure sportster the Sport was intended to be the first five-speed, 200kg (440lb), 200kph (120mph) production bike and, as such was a major step forward and, effectively, the R1 of its day. Compact (thanks to a new frame), light (ish) and fast it led directly to the 750S, 750S3 and, most importantly, the iconic 850 Le Mans and is today considered one of the most collectable of all Guzzis.
With the enourmous sucess of the V7, Guzzi realized sales in the US were critical to its success and growth. They lauched in 1972 the Guzzi California. This model is remarkable because, to help promote the new bike the very first two V7s were sold to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for just $1 each. This grew into a series of orders for police-spec machines from not just LA but ultimately Texas and Georgia and the production, from 1970, of a special police version (with footboards, different instruments and black and white livery) of Guzziâs touring, âEldoradoâ V7 (these are the bikes, incidentally, featured famously in the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry sequel âMagnum Forceâ. This in turn led to public demand for a similar machine with the 1972 California being the popular result. The US-style tourer has lived on ever since as one of Guzziâs most popular models.
1976 850 Le Mans Possibly the most famous Guzzi of all was actually, originally, not much more than a âsuped-upâ V7 Sport. However, with extra displacement, new disc brakes and striking styling, when the first Le Mans debuted in 1976 its combination of looks and performance really grabbed the publicâs imagination. That success led to four successive models from the Mk II to its ultimate culmination in the â90s, the Mk V, although none of those bikes are as highly regarded as the original which remains among the most desirable of all Guzzi classics.
CURRENT PRODUCTION MODELS
